Nutrient-Dense Hot Chocolate

Have you ever looked at the ingredients of that good old hot chocolate from when “we” were kids?

It doesn’t offer much in the nutrients department, does it? It’s actually quite full of non-food ingredients.

Here’s a recipe that’s made with quality real food ingredients. It takes a little extra effort, but the end result is a creamy delicious chocolately beverage that my kiddos inhaled.

This makes 1 cup, which I split between my children, so feel free to double or triple as needed.

Ingredients:

1 cup raw milk (or whole, organic grass fed, if raw isn’t available)

2 tbsp raw cacao powder (I like Navitas Naturals)

1/2 tbsp butter (I use Kerrygold unsalted)

1 tbsp raw honey

1 tbsp collagen peptides

1/4-1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Procedure:

1. Gently heat the milk in a saucepan over low-medium heat.

2. Add the remaining ingredients to a glass bowl or large enough glass measuring cup.

3. When the milk is warmed enough, remove from heat and pour into the glass bowl or cup over the ingredients. Gently stir to combine.

4. With a hand immersion blender, gently blend until butter is melted, cacao clumps are gone, and top is a bit frothy. (Or just use a blender.)

5. Pour in glass mug and enjoy!
